Performers of the Mesilla Valley

Cultural Arts • Prevention • Youth Wellness

Performers of the Mesilla Valley is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free folklórico, Aztec, music, cheer/poms, and cultural arts programs for youth and families in Las Cruces. Our mission is to preserve cultural heritage, promote wellness, and strengthen protective factors that help children grow confident, connected, and safe.

Since 2019, we have served more than 500 children and teens through year-round, accessible programming rooted in culture, community, and prevention.

What We Do

  • Free folklórico & Aztec dance classes

  • Music & theater (coming 2026)

  • School-based cultural workshops

  • Prevention education & wellness nights

  • Teen mentorship & leadership programs

  • Community performances & cultural festivals

Home: About

To strengthen youth and families through culturally grounded performing arts, mentorship, and community connection. We believe that every child, regardless of financial background, deserves access to positive, structured activities that build confidence, cultural pride, and emotional resilience.

Who We Serve

We serve youth and families across Las Cruces and surrounding rural communities, prioritizing:

  • Low-income households

  • At-risk youth

  • Students needing safe after-school activities

  • Families seeking cultural connection and support

Why Cultural Arts Matter

Dance, music, and storytelling give children:

  • Identity

  • Belonging

  • Routine

  • Emotional expression

  • Positive role models

  • Safe alternatives to risky behaviors

These are all protective factors recognized by CDC and SAMHSA as essential to prevention and youth wellness.

⭐ PREVENTION FOCUS

Performers of the Mesilla Valley integrates prevention into everything we do.
Through the arts, we build the protective factors that keep youth safe:

✔ Belonging
✔ Cultural identity
✔ Positive peer groups
✔ Mentorship
✔ Routine & structure
✔ Emotional wellness

Our programs reduce risks linked to substance use, isolation, boredom, and lack of supervision. We also collaborate with schools and behavioral-health organizations to connect families with education, resources, and community support.
